Question: Why do people procrastinate?
There are a number of reasons people procrastinate, they fall into a few different categories.
You can begin to uncover the underlying reasons by looking at the things you do when you are procrastinating. For example, some people will think about the task at hand, and feel like they need to eat or sleep. Although eating or needing to rest doesn’t move us in the direction of getting the task done, it does provide comfort. Even if later you might regret using that activity.
Both sleeping and eating when stressed fall under the category of comfort. . Sleeping does provide comfort and. eating of course is another way we comfort ourselves.
So this leads to the question to begin to find other ways for gaining comfort.
Question to ask yourself: What would you need to provide comfort that would work better than eating or sleeping?
1. Do you need to reassure yourself that you’ll get the task done?
2. Do you need to remember a time in the past when you accomplished a similar task?
3. Is there information that is needed so you can feel more comfortable tackling the task?
4. Is your goal so big that it is overwhelming?
5. Do you need to learn how to set goals in a way that you will move towards them?
As you answer these questions you can begin to plan on trying new ways of gaining comfort that will move you towards your goals. This is just a short sketch but you get the idea.

The following is an article written by Audrey Sussman PhD, LCSW, NBCCH, CSL. If you have questions after reading it, please send them to Audrey. Clicking on her name will take you directly to her email.
Recently, when I was snowed in I was flipping through the channels and came across of a new TV show called “Past Life.” This show brings up an interesting concept of whether past lives exist.
In this TV show they accept the premise that not only do past lives exist, but that a traumatic past life experience can be remembered.
The last episode of the TV show was about a young boy who kept getting “flash backs” to a person screaming at “him.” These memories and the fear that went with them made him feel out of control. As I watched the show they did a great job showing how a person in the middle of a panic attack feels. His anxiety attacks were getting in the way of his present life.
The boy was re-living a trauma from a “past life.” And when it happened he had difficulty distinguishing between what was “real” and what was a “flash back.”
Whether or not you believe in past lives, what I have learned as a hypno-therapist is that old memories (ones from our childhood) can and do influence our reactions. In real life (not TV shows) a person may not be aware of these old memories. They might just know that they are feeling anxiety, and not know where it is coming from. That is where hypnotic techniques can be extremely helpful. By going to the part of the mind that stores old memories and releasing old negative “junk” at the root so a person is freed up to move on with life.
I have done regressions with people where they do go to a past life. And I will discuss some of my findings in another article. When old memories and “flash backs” create havoc in a person’s present life, they need to be uncovered and released. Once you are conscious of what is triggering panic and anxiety it becomes possible to change it.
In my practice I use memories a person uncovers, to help to solve present life issues. We don’t have to decide whether the memories are exactly “true”, we act as if they are in order to heal them. In this TV show they have a person, who believes in the boy’s experience. Believing in someone is healing in itself. She doesn’t diagnose him; she uses his flashbacks as information to solve a crime. This is the same concept a hypno-therapist uses, not to judge whether it is true or not, just accept it, as if it is true and use it for a positive healing purpose.
Of course, this “Past Life” TV show has everything is all unraveled in a half-hour. The crime is solved and the boy goes on with his life, relieved of his past life trauma. Even using hypnotic techniques it will take more than 30 minutes, yet I have found that using Hypnosis helps a person to free themselves of trauma, and old limiting beliefs. That is why I was so delighted to see a show that is dealing with the issues of past influencing the present.
Many people have questions and doubt about past life issues. You might wonder if it is even possible to have had a past life. Or if you believe in past life whether a past life can affect present life issues.
There are many ways to release old fear that gets in the way. If you suffer from anxiety, stress, anger or fear. If you procrastinate or use food to gain calm. Or if you would like to put a stop to the negative message that play in your mind, You can learn to use self-hypnosis to get to the root of these issues.

A few weeks ago I had received a question from one of my readers, about past life and panic. I sent her a quick reply, with a note that I would write more after I was done posting about procrastination.
Here is the Question sent in by one of my readers:
Do you think there is anything to the theory that past lives affect and may cause anxiety attacks?
Audrey’s Answer:
First I’ll answer the question directly. When I do a regression with a client, and the client goes back to an event in that happened in a “past life,” we use the information as if past lives exist. For that is how the person’s unconscious mind is giving information that needs to be worked on.
This isn’t going to be a discussion on whether or not past lives are real or not. Let’s just agree that we are influenced by things that not only happen in the past. When the unconscious gives us information, we can use it to get to old issues. Because in my belief, old unresolved issues and are carried with us and do affect our present life.

A few weeks ago I had received a question from one of my readers, about past life and panic. I sent her a quick reply, with a note that I would write more after I was done posting about procrastination.
Recently, when I was snowed in, I was flipping through the channels and came across of a new TV show called “Past Lives.” This show brings up an interesting concept of whether past lives exist, and if they can affect what happens in our present life. Since this TV show about past lives is now running, I have gotten other questions, about the effects of old memories.
So in the next few posts I will be discussing ideas about flash backs, past life memories, childhood memories, decisions and emotions and the effects on our reactions.
In this TV show call “Past Life” the premise is that, not only do past lives exist, but that traumatic past life experiences can be remembered.
The last episode of the TV show there is a person you accepts the young boy’s (actor) “flash backs” as real. Her job is to help him to unravel these memories and the fear that came from them. This is similar to what I do as a hypnotherapist, getting to the root and releasing old “junk” that lies there. Of course in the TV show, she had a purpose not only help the boy but to solve a crime using his “memory of a past life.” Very interesting show.
Here is the Question sent in by one of my readers: Do you think there is anything to the theory that past lives affect and may cause anxiety attacks?
Audrey’s Answer:
Before I answer with my beliefs, we’ll first look a bit deeper at the question. Let’s think about what the questioner really is asking. I’d like to find out what is underneath the question about past lives in relation to anxiety. In my next post I will continue to discuss this past live issues and present life fears.
