The following was an email I received from one of my coaching students.
When we started in the online coaching course 4 sessions ago, this client hadn’t been out of the house because anxiety was so great. She found her life limited in so many ways and her self concept was at a low. Although some of the techniques she talks about may not be familiar, her new feeling about herself are obvious. She has taken all that I teach and made it her own. The following is her email.
Hi Audrey,
As I was listening to your questions on what did the feeling feel like and where did I feel it, I began to get an insight.
Getting in touch with my feelings and my body helps me to be in touch with myself to understand me. It helps me to identify a feeling(s) so I’m put in a position to use it in the way that helps me.
Getting in touch with my feelings also helps me to identify where I feel any kind of negative feelings in my body and replace it even change it with the “anchor” you help me set up.
This particular session has helped me realize even more, that my feelings do matter and I am important. I do matter, and my life is important. When I consider my feelings to take good care of me, it makes me want to consider other people’s feelings and be more kind to them. I’m beginning to understand the concept of “you only can love others when you love yourself”.
Thank you Audrey for all the work you have put in and you’re putting in to help so many, you are making a difference. Carolyn

Continued from 4/30 post
When you say “don’t do something” your unconscious mind forms a picture of exactly what you are saying not to do. The more Russell thought about not swearing, the more his mind pictured him swearing. This is what led to his feeling as if his mind was compelled to do exactly what he was told not to do.
There are was of speaking that you can use so your unconscious mind will lead you to what gain what you want. There are ways of sending messages to the unconscious that will program what you want instead of what you don’t want.
Imagine using the mind to program in compelling thoughts that would motivate you to do something you would like to do. Like exercising, moving ahead on a business plan, or any other goal that is important to you.
The first step is to put your thoughts in the positive. Say what you want instead of what you don’t want. So in the golf example, instead of staying “don’t hit into the sand trap”, the golfer would say “I’m going to hit the ball onto the green.” Although the ball might not actually get on the green, it has a much better change of going in the direction of the green.
When you say what you want your mind creates a picture of what you want to happen. This picture is very powerful. Some people use positive statements to re-program old thoughts. If you add a picture of yourself doing the activity just how you “wish” it would be, you are adding to the power of the message to the unconscious mind.
By learning how to create messages in the way that your unconscious can follow you are beginning to gain control of getting more of what you want in life. For more information on learning how to using your mind to work for you instead of against you sign in at the top right side of this page.

Insomnia relief
As I was reading Excuses Begone by Wayne Dyer it reminded me of a a number of techniques that I use with my clients. What I call “negative self talk” or “negative stories” he calls excuses. I’d recommend this book, especially the second part which has many ideas on getting rid of excuses (habits, stories and problems) .
The “stories” we tell ourselves has a great effect on the stress we feel in life. The reason I call them stories is that we don’t really know they are true. For instance saying, “I can’t do this right enough to please my boss” may be true, but there is a possibility that this time your work will please your boss. So the idea is to change the story to a positive one that might possibly be true as well.
Wayne Dyer has an exercise that uses this type of process of changing your self talk. He talks about how many of us will think of all the worries right before falling asleep. The mind has all night to “speculate” on these negative thoughts. The exercise he gives to change this habit takes only 5 minutes and can lead to peaceful restful sleep.
What most of us typically do before falling a sleep is to think about our “to do list” or about the problems facing us. Then our brain has all night to process and think about all of the negatives. It’s no wonder our sleep isn’t peaceful and refreshing.
What he suggests is that in the 5 minutes before falling asleep we reverse our thinking. To do this he suggests that you go to a place in your imagination where you want to be.
By making this simple change the unconscious mind has all night to work on moving you towards positive feelings.
Practice this every night for the next week. Every single night go to a place (in your imagination ) you want to be. Then when you fall to sleep you unconscious mind will continue with thoughts of in peace, joy and fulfillment.
If you find that you need more help to find restful sleep there is a very powerful breathing exercise you can start with. Its an easy to learn skill for reducing stress.

It’s Tish here, one of the hypnotherapists at the Anxiety Control Center. Many people who know me, know that I came to this career because I suffered with panic disorder for many, quite frankly, too many years. I tried various traditional ways to get rid of it, but only had limited success. It was not until I used the methods that we use, that I was able get true relief. But an interesting thing happened along with getting rid of panic disorder.
I used to have Lupus. When I say this, the response that I usually get is, “How did you get rid of it?”
The short answer to that question is that I released the negative emotions that I had.
I believe that we can have dis-ease in the body due to the negative emotions that we hold. It is documented that anger is connected to many diseases.
As I mentioned, I suffered with panic disorder for many years. I would not do a lot of things because I was afraid that I might have a panic attack. Things like going to the movies, grocery shopping, or even visiting friends. So since for many people, panic is not a “real” thing, I believe that my unconscious created lupus because
it is “real”. So if I could not go someplace or do something, I could always blame it on lupus and that would be acceptable to people.
When I got rid of the negative emotions and the panic went away, all of the lupus symptoms went away as well. So it was as if my unconscious was saying, you don’t need this anymore.
My lab results are always good and I have not been on medication for at least 7 or 8 years. I had a discussion with my doctor about this. He, a medical man with a scientific mind, actually agreed that letting go of stress and anxiety can cause the symptoms to go away. I told him that I don’t believe I have it anymore.
I never set out to get rid of lupus. I would never claim to be able to cure anyone of a disease. For me, it was just a very nice side effect of getting rid of panic disorder.
People are truly amazed at the changes they get after experiencing the powerful

Sometimes repeating positive statements can backfire. When a person doesn’t believe the statements, it can create even more frustration and self-blame. The following is a true story of how Sandi (fictitious name) was hurt by well meaning advice to use positive statements to improve her self-concept.
Before seeing Sandi for her first appointment her mother gave me some history about the issue she Sandi was facing. She told me how Sandi was good at so many things, and was a loving and caring person. It broke her heart to hear Sandi saying she wasn’t good at anything. Sandi had a few friends, but at times they would leave her out of things.
In trying to help her daughter improve her self-concept mom would read her excerpts from self-help books.
When Sandi would get down on herself her mom would remind her of all the wonderful things she did. She’d remind Sandi to say positive messages about herself many times a day.
Unfortunately this backfired. Continued in tomorrow’s post

It’s amazing the things I hear every day in such common places as restaurants, bookstores, or even in the doctor’s waiting room. There are so many people out there who suffer from panic attacks or know someone who does. Just the other day, I overheard a conversation between a few women, one of whom couldn’t go over the Benjamin Franklin bridge because of her intense, uncontrollable FEAR.
Being someone who specializes in helping people with Anxiety disorders, I wished I could just go over and tell her that help is available. I tried to think of a way to slip her a card without intruding, but there was no appropriate way I could think of to do it. So, I left without saying a word. The Anxiety Control Center is a place where people can go to get help.
Panic disorder can take many forms. Its victims may be afraid to leave their home, to go up high, to drive, to eat in public, to take tests, or any combination of these and other fears. For people suffering with panic attacks, even doing everyday task such as shopping can feel like a life and death situation.
The first step in getting relief from panic attacks is to realize that something is triggering them. They do not come “out of the blue”, even though it might feel that way. You are not going crazy, and many intelligent, creative people suffer from panic attacks. And most importantly you can learn how to re-reprogram not only your reactions to the fear but the underlying causes as well.
I will be answering questions that people send in each day for the next 30 days. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
If you would like to become a part of the online coaching class where you can learn many different ways to stop panic and anxiety please go to our sister site by clicking on this link.
