Changing “stories” to stop the anxiety spiral

Stress Relief Solutions No Comments »

Today we continue to look at the questions about G-d, panic and feeling weak and picked on. We’ll begin with a number of helpful tips for changing the negative feelings, into more enhancing one.   Let me know  how these tips work for you, and any other solutions you are using in your life use to stop panic and fear.  I hope the following tips help.   Audrey Sussman PhD, director of the Anxiety Control Center.

The following is a summary (collage)  of the email questions I have received in the last few days.

“Hello Audrey, First I want to thank you for answering my other emails. I truly appreciate your taking your time to answer my questions.  I reached out and was hoping to get a response even though I’m not one of your students or private clients.

Here is what is going through my mind today.  I really don’t want to feel this out of control with panic and fear.   I can’t help wondering why G-d chose to prey on the weak by giving us anxiety attacks?  Nothing prepared me for the devastating results worry, anxiety and fear is having on my life.  It stops me from moving ahead and it feels unending.   I thought the feelings would disappear over time, but it continues and gets worse every year.   I want to stop these feelings and the anger & sadness it causes, but I don’t know where to start.  Are there any tips you can offer me?”

Audrey’s response:

I can see you are reaching out for help because you truly want things to change.  It is frustrating when you’ve tried so many things and still panic and worry continues to plague you.  There are a number of different things that can be done to stop the downward spiral of feelings.  Once you see even a small change it will give you hope.

Old “stories” and patterns of belief:

When you think that G-d is preying on you, it creates more upset, anger and a “it’s not fair feeling.”  This feeds the feelings of hopelessness.   It also increases the feeling of being out of control.   These negative thoughts are just one possible “story.”  One that increases negative thoughts and adds to the spiral of anxiety, and loss of hope.

New “stories” and patterns that work better:

Imagine for a moment, how different it would feel if your thought was that G-d is giving you strength to deal with panic, instead of preying on you.  Or perhaps, the thought that G-d had given you the strength to survive the panic and anxiety all theses years.  Even though the panic might still be scary,  changing your way of thinking from “being weak or being preyed on,” to the more positive one, stops the negative spiral.  Remember, we don’t know for sure what G-d purpose is, so since it is your mind – imagine something else that would serve you better.  Something that doesn’t add to the stress you already feel.   I myself truly believe that creativity is one of the “gifts” people with panic are born with.   It may be that at the moment your creativity is going in the wrong direction (that of scaring you), but it is still a gift you can learn to use in a positive helpful way.

I write this in an effort to help in some small way.  Continue reading tomorrow’s post with the 3 tips for changing thoughts for panic relief.

Continue reading the post this afternoon for more tips.
Let me know  how they work for you.  I’m always interested in any solutions people come up with in dealing with worry, anxiety or panic.  Audrey Sussman PhD, Director of the Anxiety Control Center

articles by Audrey, Exercises and Tips, grief, Hypnosis and Trance, Stress Relief Solutions No Comments »

Have you been suffering from depression and feeling hopeless?  Have you tried
but don’t know how to change these feelings?

Are you wishing for something, some “guiding light,” some technique, anything
that’s will help you to get out from under the dark spell of depression?  I want you
to know that here is hope !  I have a step-by-step plan of actions for you to take.
They are it easy to follow, because I know that when you are depressed it’s difficult
to concentrate or to have energy to even read a short article.

I realize that when you are depressed and your energy is depleted it might be hard
to even get out of bed, not to mention reading an article on how to get relief.  So to
make this even easier, I give you a link to a video that will guide you through the
first action step.

So, please, read on and take action, by going to watch the video today.  Take the
first step in changing your life today.     The link is at the bottom of this article.

My name is Audrey Sussman and for over the past 25 years I have helped my
clients to find a way to move themselves from feeling depressed and hopeless,
to feeling optimism and energy.

The first step is simple. It is something so easy to do that you can even do it from
the bed or the chair you are sitting in. So I’ll keep this to just the first step.

In the days and weeks to come, I’ll give you the next steps.  If you follow the
step-by-step plan, you might even surprise yourself as you begin to look forward
to doing the next small step.  Keeping it simple, taking tiny steps moves you in
the direction of hope, until one day you notice you are thinking and feeling
differently.

So, for you who are suffering with depression, worry, or loss of hope, lets start
with the first easy step, and it’s something that only requires your doing something
you are doing anyway.  This is it: Changing your breathing pattern.   This is a
physical or behavioral technique to change your state of mind.  There are other
techniques to deal with negative thoughts and emotions, but we need to start with
the 1st step first.

Go to actionendsprocrastination.com and watch the video.  I’ll guide your through
and give you tips for making it even more successful.  Practice it every day for the
next two weeks, and stay curious.

If you would rather have the written directions, put in your name and email
in the box on the right of this post to download the directions.

That’s it for today.  Start with the first behavioral change, and you’ll be preparing
yourself for the next step, I’ll be giving you.   See you soon,

Audrey

Relief from overwhelm, hopelessness and fear: Step 1

Stress Relief Solutions No Comments »

Blueprint for hope and optimism

Today we’ll be looking at 2 questions about feeling hopeless, fearful and overwhelmed.  After a step-by-step plan for my clients, I decided to put some of my answers into the next few posts.  People don’t need to suffer with churning, harmful thoughts, I hope you enjoy these posts and if you have question just contact me on the tab on the side of this page.

Question 1:  This week I’m feeling anxiety again.  After our sessions I usually  leave feeling like a new person. Like there is a ray of light.  But this week I’m feeling like I will never get better.  It feels like there isn’t any hope for true relief.  I feel like I’m backsliding into anxiety and fear.    I followed up on 2 of my action steps and started to be fearful about moving ahead with my plans.  What is wrong with me?

Question 2: I’m feeling disconnected, whenever I start to feel good, I start monitoring my body for signs of anxiety.  I can be really happy and at ease, then I start to check to see if I am really feeling that way, within moments the good feelings disappear.  That’s when I get disconnected.  Even though I find I’m calmer physically my thoughts still get overwhelming.

Is there an effective strategy for breaking the cycle of monitoring my thoughts, that you can give me until we meet again?

The following answers will be a combination answer to both Questions: Today I’ll start with step 1, and in the upcoming days the next steps will be given.

Answer:  Dear Rennith (fictional name).
I am happy to see that you did give yourself a bit of credit for the relief you did feel recently.  That is a glimpse of the positive changes you are capable of.    It is my desire teach you the tools you need so that you once again will feel optimistic and hopeful.

Steps for hope and optimism:

Step 1:  Start jotting things down that would have to happen to make you feel hopeful.   Not just the major changes, but also the smallest “things” that would “have to”  change for you to feel even the tiniest bit of hope.  (This way you’ll start to notice the smallest changes in the positive direction and be able to remind yourself that there is movement in the right direction.

We’ve talked about the times recently, where you felt a “reprieve” from overwhelm and anxiety.  Think back to those times you felt the changes starting to happen, where you felt different and better.

Fear, negative thinking and checking your feelings are all old patterns. It’s interesting that the upset resurfaced when you were feeling happy. I imagine that the  “little voice “in the back of your mind started giving you negative messages, such as telling you that  nothing was changing.

When that pattern happens the old panic cycle gets going as you think about all the reasons that you are afraid, stuck or that nothing will change.

To help you as you decide about doing hypno-therapy we’ve put together some questions and answers.
1.  What kind of therapy is the best?

At the Anxiety Control Center use the Transformation System.  This system uses both Classical and Ericksonian Hypnosis in combination with NLP, and Cognitive and Behavioral therapeutic techniques. We believe that Ericksonian hypnosis & NLP add the “magic” ingredient that enables you to get to  the “root” of the issues holding you back in life.

2. Are there many different types of “tools” in Ericksonian hypnosis?  What if I think my problem is not the “run of the mill” type of issue, is there something that can be done?
The different techniques that I use when working with someone are determined by what the needs of that person are.  We  decided on the goals you want to accomplish together and then you are given many different “tools” you you can choose from to get the results.    Just as you would have many tools in your house repair toolbox, you also want to have different tools for mental repair projects.

3.  Can I ask about techniques before I do them?
You have the right to know what techniques the therapist is going to use.  We have spent years of practice and research in developing a program that we can design if each individual, so we enjoy talking about different “tools” and you get the benefit of experiencing many different skills of healing.

4.  How long will it take?
Although no therapist can tell you exactly how many sessions it will take you do have a right to find out how long before you will start to experience relief. When we talk to you on the phone, we can give you a better idea of how long it might take.

5.  Do I need to set up a session before getting answers about the type of therapy that is used?
One of the most important things is to feel comfortable with the therapist you choose.  We are  happy explain our system to you over the phone.  We don’t get caught up in big words and fancy systems. We explain in language that makes sense, and you will know after talking to one of our therapists if our system feels right to you.  Most importantly, choose a therapist whose system you are comfortable with.  Trust your instincts.  Talk to the therapist on the phone before you have your first appointment.  Most therapists will offer a free telephone consultation to get to know you and to answer your questions.

6.  What if I’m afraid to bother the therapist with my questions?
This is similar to our answer about types of therapy.  It’s important to feel comfortable talking to the therapist.  Look for someone who is knowledgeable, patient and friendly.  This is the most important thing.  You cannot get better by talking to someone who intimidates you.

7.  How soon should I schedule an appointment?  If I have panic attacks how often do I need to come in?
Once you find a therapist with whom you are comfortable, and who feels knowledgeable,  schedule an appointment.  It important to have  guidance in dealing with panic and phobias, how often you set appointment needs to be discussed after your first session.  In the beginning people come in more frequently, and then as they feel better appointments are spaced out.  For some people appointments are set every 2 weeks, others feel more comfortable once a month, and for some every 3 months is just fine.

If you are suffering from Panic, Anxiety, Fear, Anger, Grief, or Procrastination we hope you will call us.  These issues can be released so make sure you get help, there is no reason to suffer alone.

Dealing With Anxiety and Fear

Stress Relief Solutions Comments Off

It’s amazing the things I hear every day in such common places as restaurants, bookstores, or even in the doctor’s waiting room.  There are so many people out there who suffer from panic attacks or know someone who does.  Just the other day, I overheard a conversation between a few women, one of whom couldn’t go over the Benjamin Franklin bridge because of her intense, uncontrollable FEAR.

Being someone who specializes in helping people with Anxiety disorders, I wished I could just go over and tell her that help is available.  I tried to think of a way to slip her a card without intruding, but there was no appropriate way I could think of to do it.  So, I left without saying a word.  The Anxiety Control Center is a place where people can go to get help.

Panic disorder can take many forms.  Its victims may be afraid to leave their home, to go up high, to drive, to eat in public, to take tests, or any combination of these and other fears.  For people suffering with panic attacks, even doing everyday task such as shopping can feel like a life and death situation.

The first step in getting relief from panic attacks is to realize that something is triggering them.  They do not come “out of the blue”, even though it might feel that way.  You are not going crazy, and many intelligent, creative people suffer from panic attacks.  And most importantly you can learn how to re-reprogram not only your reactions to the fear but the underlying causes as well.

I will be answering questions that people send in each day for the next 30 days.  I’ll look forward to hearing from you.

If you would like to become a part of the online coaching class where you can learn many different ways to stop panic and anxiety please go to our sister site by clicking on this link.

But before you go there,  please sign up for your first mind calming exercise in the upper right side of this screen.
